Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma, whose brilliant and expressive playing has captivated Oregon Symphony audiences in recent performances, will reunite with the Oregon Symphony to serve as the Symphony's Artist-in-Residence during the 23/24 Season. Throughout her three-year residency, Simone will return annually to perform with the Oregon Symphony orchestra and serve as Oregon Symphony's ambassador-at-large—a role that will allow Simone to engage with local Oregon residents and facilitate long-lasting relationships with our community and schools.
Beyond her appearance onstage perform to Bruch's beloved Violin Concerto No. 1 in April 2024, Simone will participate in several community outreach events and free public performances. We look forward to welcoming her back to the Oregon Symphony stage for future performances during her tenure, which will be announced at a later date.
Simone is widely-regarded as one of the most respected and masterful violinists of her generation—leading to her countless performances on international stages and several prestigious awards, such as the Dutch VSCD Classical Music Prize. Her impressive repertoire of over 60 Violin Concertos have moved audiences around the world and have cultivated her stunning performances with some of the world's leading orchestras.
Xavier Foley is known for communicating his virtuosity and passion for music on the double bass, which is rarely presented as a solo instrument. Winner of a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, he has been recognized on New York WQXR’s "19 for 19" Artists to Watch list, and is featured on PBS Thirteen’s NYC-ARTs. Also a composer, Xavier was co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall and the Sphinx Organization for a new work entitled “For Justice and Peace” for Violin, Bass, and String Orchestra, which was recently performed at venues including Carnegie Hall as part of a program designed to promote social justice.
During Mr. Foley's concert week for The Music of Dance: Schubert & Strauss in June 2024, he will visit schools and communities for workshops, recitals, and connections.
