Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Value Statement

We recognize deep-rooted economic, social, cultural, racial, gender, physical, and other barriers to participation and access in the arts. As a leading performing arts organization in the region, we commit to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion for those we serve, through our programming, and across our leadership and workforce. We are dedicated to making the Oregon Symphony a symphony for all.

We embrace the inherent richness that comes with a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization. We believe that nurturing a broad range of perspectives allows us to think differently, listen more intently, and connect more deeply with a larger, more diverse community. The arts are an expression of our shared humanity, and the Oregon Symphony welcomes you to share in this experience.

We commit to:

  • Developing programming that engages people from all walks of life, both on and off the stage
  • Fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for a broad range of audiences and communities to experience the Oregon Symphony
  • Listening to our community, particularly seeking out the voices of historically underserved groups
  • Increasing access and participation in the arts for the under-represented and marginalized
  • Reflecting our community in our programs, people, and partnerships
  • Instilling a work culture that encourages diverse perspectives
  • Cultivating an institutional spirit that advances equity and inclusiveness in our work and workplace

We acknowledge that dedicating ourselves to these commitments will require resources, action, and accountability. Through this intentional focus, the Oregon Symphony will do our part to create a stronger, healthier, and more vibrant community.
